Coal Harbour (click for more info) is Vancouver’s premier residential waterfront neighbourhood, located on the northern shore of the downtown peninsula. It houses many of the city’s most luxurious and highly-coveted condominium properties. Bordered to the south by West Georgia Street and to the east by Burrard Street, Coal Harbour sits at the entrance to world famous Stanley Park and enjoys stunning vistas of Burrard Inlet and the North Shore mountains to the north.

Although Coal Harbour occupies a very small area, geographically speaking, it houses approx 40 luxury residential condo towers as well as numerous luxury hotels, shops and fine restaurants. The main “Downtown” area lies immediately to the south and east the “West End” to the south and west. With the recent addition of the Urban Fare grocery/deli, liquor and wine stores as well as banks and numerous complimentary service businesses, Coal Harbour has come of age as Vancouver’s most luxurious and exclusive urban address.

Coal Harbour itself is the southern portion of Burrard Inlet which is the body of water separating Vancouver and North Vancouver. As recently as recently as 20 years ago, Coal Harbour began its transformation from an industrial area of saw mills and warehouses into a premier waterfront neighbourhood when the Coal Harbour Official Development Plan was voted into law November 6, 1990.

World-famous Stanley Park, to the east, was named after Lord Stanley who was Governor General of Canada at the time. In 1894 the Nine O'clock Gun was installed on the south shore of Stanley Park and is still fired every evening at 9PM. Coal Harbour is home to a float plane terminal and a floating marine gas station. The Westin Bayshore hotel, made famous by frequent guest, Howard Hughes, was built in 1961.

The landmark white sails of Canada Place cruise ship terminal and hotel is prominent to the east as is the newly-completed Vancouver trade and convention centre. Vancover’s famous seawall extends from the convention centre to the east, all the way around stanley Park, along English Bay and around False Creek.
